A steel stanchion has to be anchored to its concrete foundation, and that connection is what people mean by a stanchion base. BoltBox supplies the holding down bolts and made-up bolt boxes that secure stanchion bases across the UK — cast into your foundation so the steelwork can be bolted down quickly and accurately.
What is a stanchion base?
The term is used two ways, and it's worth being clear about both:
The steel baseplate
A flat metal plate welded to the bottom of the stanchion that forms part of the steelwork. This is fabricated and welded by your steel fabricator — it isn't something we supply.
The foundation base
The concrete base with holding down bolts cast into it, which the steel baseplate bolts down onto. This is where BoltBox comes in — we supply the bolts and the bolt box.
In short: we don't make the welded steel plate — that's the fabricator's job. We supply the holding down bolts and the bolt box that the stanchion base is anchored to.

We make up a bolt box (holding down bolt cluster) set out to the exact bolt centres on your engineer's drawing — the same centres as the stanchion baseplate — so when the steel arrives it drops on and bolts down first time. Each is supplied complete with Grade 8.8 holding down bolts, nuts, square plate washers, tapered waxed cones and the plywood template that holds it all in position for the pour.

What is a stanchion base?
